Rear House, 2nd Floor – Apartment 2B
2 Bedrooms and 1 Bathroom
This apartment has been rented!
Unique to this apartment: Apartment 2B is the only apartment that has space on 2 floors. It’s our most recently renovated apartment. Every room has been painted. This includes all new cellular shades on the windows, new electrical switches and outlets, and even a new Samsung stove! And to help save utility costs, we’ve installed all new daylight color LEDs in every light fixture. It’s super sunny and cozy apartment!
Utilities. Natural gas heat and electricity is the tenant’s responsibility. Each tenant creates an account with Con Edison and they pay Con Ed directly. You only pay for what you use in your apartment. We think this is fair. There’s no reason for you to have to pay for your neighbor’s heat if you are at work all day (and vise versa).
The Porch.
The Porch. This apartment, like all of our apartments, has its own private entry. No one to wake up, if you are coming home late or leaving super early! This is the porch entry (see photo to the left) for this apartment.
The tulips and plants have changed some. I’ve added lovely shrubs that have grown big and green. We added rocks and edging to make it clean and neat.
And I’ve added a beautiful urn I fill with flowers every year, at the foot of the steps just for some beautiful color. But no worries about watering, it is all connected to our automatic drip irrigation system!
The Downstairs Entry.
The Entry. I found this front door in 2005 and loved it. Many door designs can look too feminine with the colors or depictions (like flowers) in the stained glass. This door design was more masculine, but still provided the glass insert to view whomever may be ringing the doorbell.
We had the front door installed in 2006. It is a thick solid heavy door in honey oak finish with double insulated stained glass insert. We also had a beautiful Baldwin shiny brass handle lock set installed to complete the whole look. The shiny brass lock set compliments the shiny brass “leading” of the stained glass. The jewelry look of the lock set, balances the masculine look of the door design, delivering a really great look.
We had the staircase stripped down and stained by a professional to bring it back to its original beauty. Then to round out the project, we had the hallway painted two beautiful Benjamin Moore neutral colors – Morning Dew, and one of my favorites, Plymouth Rock.
The high ceiling of the entry hallway makes it feel like a much larger area than its actual square footage. The entry area comes in handy for storing temporary items, sporting equipment or larger items. We’ve had some tenants have even keep their bicycle in the hallway, ready to go for a quick ride.
The closet is convenient for coats and boots. Some have used it for off-season clothing or longer term storage. With the doors closed, everything is put away and presentable, just in case company shows up unexpectedly.
The hallway also has the electrical fuse panel for the apartment. The entire apartment was completely rewired from the meter in 1998. And a new electrical fuse panel (solely for this apartment), was added to the hallway for convenient access.
Terrible winter weather is no problem, because you can easily leave your wet clothes on the heater, and boots on the floor in front of the heater to dry. They will be dry and ready to wear when you are ready to head out. You won’t have to carry your soggy outdoor gear upstairs to your clean apartment. Slip on your comfy slippers when you enter, and keep all of your soggy outdoor clothes from the winter weather, under control.
At the top of the stairs is a window that allows lots of light into the space. At the top of the steps is also the doors to enter the apartment. The hardwood stairs and landing continue into the living space of the apartment.
The Apartment.
In a roommate situation, this apartment layout would work well. This is because each bedroom is on opposite ends of the apartment, with common areas like the bathroom and kitchen, located in the middle. The schematic I drafted above shows the layout of the rooms of the apartment. More details and photos about specific areas follow below.
Bathroom. This full bathroom has a window that faces south west which allows plenty of light! It’s compact, but the loads of sunlight makes it feel much larger than its footprint.
The sink vanity and beautiful granite sink are brand new! The Moen faucet in satin nickel is the finishing luxurious touch to the new granite sink. It’s so easy to clean, just a wipe and it shines!
Included is a really cute shower curtain that picks up the fresh new paint. It looks great with the sun coming through!
I’ve installed a cool curved shower rod to allow extra space in the shower for more room. I love the extra room you get in the shower from these rods! You don’t feel so confined while shampooing! It too is a lovely satin nickel finish with easy glide hooks that don’t fall off the curtain.
I’ve also installed a brand new medicine cabinet for storing essential daily health items. And a lovely new wall cabinet for other bathroom essentials or decorative items. The hardware on both cabinets is satin nickel and matches the new Moen faucet perfectly! You can easily display some pretty soaps, bottles or lotions!
Also brand new are the Moen satin nickel towel bars, robe hook and toilet paper holder. Beautiful hardware from an excellent brand, really makes a difference!
The floor in the bathroom is a marble style vinyl tile for easy cleaning and no worries about water spilling on it. The bathroom has a tub and shower combination.
Kitchen. The kitchen has a small set of double windows over the sink and one large window on the adjacent wall. The windows over the sink are small but allow a ton of light in the space, ALL day long! It’s always super bright and cheerful in there!
I’ve installed a wine glass holder and paper towel holder to allow the essentials to be in reach!
We’ve installed a brand new Samsung stove. It’s a wonderful appliance! It’s Wi-Fi enabled and it does convection cooking with no preheating. And it can air fry! You don’t need a separate appliance to make fries or chicken nuggets!
It’s a cute kitchen with enough room for a small breakfast table and 2 chairs. Included currently is a wooden cart that fits the space perfectly. It fits next to the stove or against the wall as shown in the photo.
Our previous tenant loved this area in the morning to sip coffee and study his latest chess moves! A great way to get your day started!
There is also a Maytag refrigerator tucked in the corner and out of the way with more cabinets above for additional storage.
There are also connections for a washing machine and dryer, if you have one.
Living Room. It’s a large room with hardwood floors.
The living room has a large window that faces north with a new blackout cellular shade. It also a closet that would be great for snuggly throws to curl up on the sofa.
The living room has a hardwood floor that has been preserved nicely.
It’s a very cute space and can easily accommodate a sofa and large coffee table. Our current tenant has it set up very nicely!
Bedroom #1. This bedroom is not super large but does easily fit a full size bed.
It has a small closet for clothes and shoes.
There are 2 large windows for lots of light. Both windows have brand new blackout cellular shades installed. If you like to sleep in, these will allow you to keep the sun out until you’re ready!
The window in the photo on the left faces west and gets the most light any afternoon of the year.
The window on the right is where we installed the air conditioner for the hot summer season! And yes, 3 air conditioners come installed with the apartment. You don’t have to go out and purchase your own!
Bedroom #2. This bedroom is bigger than the other bedroom. It also has a large closet that covers one complete wall. That’s a lot of storage!
It has a large double window that faces east and let’s in lots of early morning sun! The brand new blackout cellular shades are included. So although it gets lots of early morning sun, you can control what time you want to get up!
Also included, is the air conditioner for the hot summer season. You don’t have to go out an purchase your own, we have them already installed!
